In order to inculcate the feeling of helping others, students of various colleges of Gujarat Technological University collected collect unused or old clothes, toys, books among others and gave them to the children and people who needed them.
The Daan Utsav – Joy Of Giving week was celebrated during from the birth anniversary of Matama Gandhi the father of the nation. The DAAN Utsav was celebrated across the country. However, the NSS volunteers of Vishwakarma Government Engineering College (VGEC) Chandkheda-Ahmedabad, celebrated this week from September 28 to October 14 to give their contribution to the society and to bring smile on faces of poor and homeless people.
As a part of this drive happy boxes were placed in college campus and nearby places to collect unused or old clothes, toys, books etc. More than 2000 things were collected from college and nearby societies. Collected things were distributed in slum areas to poor and homeless people. With support of students, Professors of VGEC and society members, this event was a great success.
Vice chancellor of GTU and principal of VGEC Dr.Rajul Gajjar expressed hope that similar activities will be continue for social cause. On the other hand, Faculty Head of NSS VGEC Professor Alpesh Dafda said that, “Social service is impactful only if it is done for welfare of every class of society and by this event we wanted to reach out to maximum amount of people”.
