Udupi, Jul 30: “Vishwakarma community has a special recognition in society. But it has been lagging behind in the fields of finance, education and politics due to oppression. It has experienced sociological suppression. We will start the process of finding solution for all the problems faced by the community. And that work should begin from today itself, not tomorrow,” said former chief minister and JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy.
He was speaking after inaugurating the convention of Vishwakarma community from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts at Kaup Venugiri Sri Kalikamba Vishwakarmeshwara temple.
“Some people who promised you welfare made you work for them. They reached higher levels because of you. Then they hopped from party to party. This is the time to boycott them. Only go with the people who will take you forward in development. Do not join hands with wrong people,” he added.
“All the governments so far have failed to encourage and support the traditional skills you have been performing from generations. I am here with you empty-handed. I cannot help you now as I do not have power. But if you support me I have the ability to fight for you and to become your voice. Support JD(S) this time as an alternative to Congress and BJP,” he told the community.
Yogish Acharya, the honourary president of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Vishwakarma federation, who presided over the convention, said, “Vishwakarma community has made great achievements. But our present condition is very pathetic. I have discussed with H D Kumaraswamy all the problems the community is facing. He has responded positively to them. This convention should inspire us, unite us and become a milestone for the overall development of our community.”
Sadashiva Acharya, JD(S) state secretary Bojegowda, JD(S) Udupi district president Yogish V Shetty, State Vishwakarma association president Umesh Acharya, Jayarama Acharya were present among others.
Ananthayya Acharya welcomed. Ratnakar Acharya thanked. Damodar Sharma Barkur compered.
